Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. Parents of Winona Ryder chose her name after the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz is her father as well as Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder's father is from an ethnically Jewish family Ryder believes she is Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria as well as half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder and her family relocated to California's Mendocino County in the year 2000, when Ryder was only seven years old. The family lived in a place without electricity. Ryder was a voracious bookworm and would spend her days reading books as there was no TV. Ryder took acting classes at the age of Ryder was twelve years old, in the American Conservatory Theatre. At the age of fifteen, she landed her first acting job onscreen, playing Lucas. Ryder faced bullying during her time in high school. Ryder hoped that her actions could bring change. However, the plan didn't pan out. The actress continued to chase her dreams. Her big break was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued playing roles that were successful in a variety of films. Two Academy Awards were nominated, one of which was for The Age of Innocence (1996).
